Home insurance is an insurance policy that, depending on your level of cover, can protect you against risks to your home and its contents. Home insurance is usually sold as a single policy that can include buildings insurance, contents insurance and liability insurance. The scope of coverage offered by insurance policies varies, so a host should review their policy and contact their insurer with any queries.
We strongly recommend that all hosts have home insurance in place. If you already have cover, you may need to notify your insurer, have your policy amended or obtain your insurer's consent in order to host.
In our experience, most insurance companies do not increase premiums when hosting in your own home. On some occasions, there may be a lack of awareness on the part of the broker or insurance provider regarding the hosting programme and its effects on your policy. We can provide you with an official letter outlining the parameters of the hosting arrangement and that it does not constitute a tenancy agreement. Insurance providers will also often request to see your signed licence agreement.
