Helping Irish Hosts
Helping Irish Hosts (HIH) arose in direct response to the humanitarian crisis resulting from the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Our founding purpose was to empower and support individuals and communities in Ireland to host displaced people in their homes, safely and sustainably. 2 years on, empowering and supporting guests is equally as important in delivering on our mission to make hosting sustainable.
We are hosts, helping hosts. We have opened our own homes to people seeking refuge and want to support others doing this too.
We facilitate matches, provide ongoing support to hosts and guests, raise awareness of the massive benefits hosting is having for individuals and communities, and advocate for what’s needed to sustain the host response.
We know that hosting works and that matches last when people have the right infrastructure in place to support them. Whether you were matched by us, one of our partners, or you matched yourself, we are here to support you - host and guest - at every stage of the journey.
Community spirit. Positive change. Welcome. Hope. These are the impacts our actions as hosts are having on the wider community.
